Full course description
This course is designed to help educators develop and implement research-sound and effective mathematical teaching practices in their classrooms. Throughout this course, you will practice using eight effective mathematical teaching practices developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and begin to understand the relationships between the practices and how they provide a strong foundation for planning successful student-centered instruction. Along the way, you will engage with other educators who are on this journey with you in learning and using these practices in their own classrooms. Our hope is that this course will provide a platform for exploration, practice, collaboration, and reflection!
The focus of this course is on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)'s Eight Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices, which we believe contribute to the mathematical success of all students. We will begin each learning module with an NCTM teaching practice as our blueprint. Then, we will lay a strong foundation by exploring the practice more deeply. The goal of the course is to construct the practices into our own classroom experiences!
